The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has directed all pay tv platforms in the country to release local channels to all Nigerian for free. .
The information was made known in a statement signed by NBC assistant director, public affairs , Ekanem Antia on Friday said the decryption will last for one month where it named GOTV, DSTV, NTA Startimes, FreeTV and other pay TV platforms in Nigeria to decrypt all local channels to enable subscribers to access daily reports and directives on the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Further directives on this shall be issued by the Commission after detailed assessments of subsequent development,” the statement noted.
Earlier, NBC had requested broadcast stations to ensure timely basic information and updates on the pandemic.
According to the statement, the commission noted that daily broadcast monitoring reports so far indicated that broadcast stations across the country have been giving detailed reportage on the campaign for awareness on the virus.
However, the commission noted with dismay that a few broadcasters aired “unsubstantiated news and names of persons purportedly infected by the virus without required professional authentication”.
“Broadcasters are further mandated to allot, at least, 10% of their daily airtime to public enlightenment on the virus, in line with National interest and Social Responsibility, as enshrined in the Nigeria Broadcasting Code,” the statement added.

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 14 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
It disclosed that two of the cases are in FCT and 12 in Lagos. Out of the 14, two were detected on a vessel, three were returning travellers and one is close contact of a confirmed case

According to a tweet by social media activist JJ Omojuwa, there has been a report of 6 recovery cases of coronavirus in Lagos state.
Omojuwa who twitted on his official Handle JJ.Omujuwa wrote, ” Glad to read about 6 new Coronavirus recovery in Lagos! Only yesterday someone called me and asked, why aren’t there no recoeries in Nigeria like abroad? I said, recoveries are correlated to WHEN the city came in and how many cases you have. The NCDC has earlier reported that there are new cases of the COVID 19 virus his is ravaging the whole world, with 2 new cases in Abuja, 2 on Lagos and 1 in Osun state.
The Lagos state government, in it’s bid to curtail spread of the ravaging Covid 19 disease, has continued to culminate major bus stops in the state.

Adamu Mohammed Duguri, elder brother of the Bauchi state Governor Bala Mohammed has been reportedly kidnapped this evening.
He was allegedly taken captive around 7:30 pm on Wednesday at Anguwar Jaki in Bauchi metropolis.

The House of Representatives has today move to arrest some telecommunication services providers who refused to heed to the invitation of the parliament over the pay as you go tarrif on Nigerians.
The motion which was brought into the floor of the house as a Matter of Urgent Public Importance by a lagos state law maker Hon. James Faleki, chairman house committee on finance, has called for drastic majors by the house by way of sanction to the airing telecoms service providers.
The speaker of the house Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed his dissatisfaction over the refusal by the service providers to appear in the parliament after an invitation by the house committee. The speaker further describing the act as disrespectful on the side of the telecom service
The house has however, agreed to invite the telecoms services again in the next one week, and if they fail to honor the invitation they should face immediate arrest.

Moving the motion of urgent public importance, Rep. Zakari Isa Chawai said even though government has put some measures in place to ensure flight restrictions into the country, there was the need to restrict public gatherings.
Chawai commended the management of the NYSC for shutting down its orientation camps across the country, pointing out that there was the need to take more proactive measure and quarantine travellers to the country.
