Aftermath of Yari’s Letter: Zamfara Assembly Repeals Law Backing Jumbo Pension, Allowances for Ex-govs, Others

Zamfara State House of Assembly Tuesday outrightly repealed the law that allows jumbo payment of pension and other allowances to former governors, their deputies, speakers and their deputies in the state, Daily Trust has reported.
This was coming as Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, also Tuesday launched Zamfara Social Intervention Programme.
The law was abolished barely 48 hours after a letter written by a former governor, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar,to incumbent governor, leaked to the public, where the former was demanding for the payment of his upkeep allowances running into millions of Naira.
The letter has generated heated debates within and outside the state.
The letter demanded a monthly upkeep allowances for an ex-governor in the state at N10 million. The demand was backed by law which was amended and assented to on March 23, 2019.
