How Residence Scamper For Safety As Unknown Gunmen Opened Fire At Commuters In Abuja
The security situation in the Nigerian capital, Abuja and its environs is becoming more worse almost on a daily basis, stories of attacks and kidnapping by unknown gunmen has become a reoccurring issue in the FCT.
Yesterday was one of such days around Zuma rock along Kaduna- Abuja road in Niger state.
Daily Trust reports that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers shot at commuters around Zuma rock along Abuja-Kaduna highway, in Niger state on Tuesday, November 5.
The incidence occur at night when workers and traders were returning to their homes from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A victim, who escaped the attack, said around 9 pm, the vehicle he boarded from the Zuba axis in Abuja was shot at on approaching the area, just close to a military checkpoint. He said the attack forced the driver to reverse, after which all passengers alighted from the vehicle and fled the scene.
A trader at the Wuse market in Abuja, Hassan Ibrahim, also explained that hundreds of passengers got out of their vehicles to take refuge around nearby Zuma estate.
He said some security men in plain clothes were later sighted heading towards the direction where the gunmen laid the siege. A similar incident took place in the same area where about 20 persons were abducted and taken into the bush. Some of them were held in captivity for days before regaining freedom after paying the ransom.
