Read As Government Moves To Shut Down Sub Standard Secondary Scools


The federal government has initiated a scheme to tighten the noose on operators of substandard secondary schools in the country.

Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba made this known in a statement signed by Ben Bem-Goong, deputy director and public relations unit of the ministry of education. He stressed that the National Secondary Education Commission, (NSEC) will foresee that all secondary schools are up to standard.

According to the minister, “such mushroom” schools will not be allowed to operate. β€œAs much as the government is doing everything humanly possible to bring every child of school age on board, quality and standard must not be sacrificed.

β€œThe Federal Ministry of Education will present a memo on standardization and quality assurance for secondary schools at the next National Council on Education slated for Nov. 4th to 8th”.
The memo will also be presented to the Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE)’’.

Mr. Nwajiuba further calls on States, local government, school owners as well as stakeholders to work towards upgrading the standard of education in such schools.
