2019 Independence Day: What Nigerians Expect from Mr. President as He Addresses the Nation

Yes, it is no longer news that as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 59th Independence Anniversary Celebrations, President Muhammadu Buhari would few hours broadcast to the nation on October 1, 2019 at 7am.

Expectedly, television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets would hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.

The broadcast has become the annual ritual that is being performed by the successive Heads of State/Presidents since October 1, 1960.

This is the fifth time President Buhari would be addressing the nation in that capacity.

For me, I think the President has a golden chance to go beyond usual pronouncements of what ought to be. No one is ready to celebrate rhetoric at 59.

At 59, the concern of an average Nigerian is that evidential results and referential yardsticks to measure our growth performance and development indices.
